After three days off — including two rained out games and one travel day — the Winnipeg Goldeyes seemed out of their groove on Tuesday night, as they lost to the Can-Am Leagues New Jersey Jackals. Tim McCarver .The Goldeyes (18-11) began their eastern road trip losing 4-1 to the Jackals (13-9) at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls, New Jersey. This was the first time the Goldeyes have played at Yogi Berra Stadium since the 2002 Northern League Championship Series. The Jackals beat the Goldeyes in the final two games of that series in Little Falls to claim their second straight league championship. The Jackals took the lead early on Tuesday night, with two solo home runs in the first inning to get ahead two runs. They added another run on a sac fly in the bottom of the fourth, and tacked on their fourth run in the bottom of the fifth.Jackals pitcher Gabriel Perez kept the Goldeyes bats quiet. He went strong for seven innings, facing only 22 batters, striking out five and giving up only one hit to the Fish.“He kept us off balance for the most part,” said Goldeyes Pitching Coach Jamie Vermilyea of Perez on the Jewel 101 Post-Game Show. “He pitched a good game.”Despite being on the hook for all four of the Jackals runs, and the loss, Goldeyes pitcher Chris Salamida was able to retire the last seven batters he faced. He also recorded six strikeouts, and only gave up one walk over his seven innings of work.“He also pitched well,” said Vermilyea. “He made a few mistakes there in the first inning, but he also got out of a few jams, and gave us a chance to win.”The Goldeyes only run came in top of the ninth. Casey Haerther reached on a single and then was driven in on a Jake Blackwood RBI double.“Its good to end on somewhat of a positive note. Hopefully we can keep the batting momentum going into the game tomorrow,” Vermilyea said. With the loss the Goldeyes move a game and a half back of the St. Paul Saints for second in the American Association North Division. The Goldeyes continue their series against the Jackals tomorrow and Thursday with both games going at 6 p.m. Tomorrow the Goldeyes will send Nick Hernandez (2-0) to the mound to face New Jerseys Keith Bilodeau (0-1). The Fish then travel to Quebec to take on the Quebec Capitales in a three-game series that goes Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Genesis Cabrera .ca. Hi Kerry, Thursday nights Bruins-Blackhawks game had a goal by Patrice Bergeron initially waved off by the referee, but video review clarified it was a good goal. Marcell Ozuna . -- Southern Illinois coach Barry Hinson couldnt hear himself amid the roar in Koch Arena, so he kept stomping on the floor in a fruitless attempt to get his teams attention. http://www.custommlbcardinalsjersey.com/custom-jack-flaherty-jersey-large-711q.html . - A week after a late-game debacle on defence, the Pittsburgh Steelers showed they can finish. MADRID, Spain -- Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals as Real Madrid completed its Champions League last 16 thrashing of Schalke with a 3-1 victory on Tuesday. Madrid breezed into the quarterfinals after winning 9-2 on aggregate following its 6-1 first-leg victory in Germany. The Spanish leaders progress was never in doubt as coach Carlo Ancelotti rotated his squad, with Gareth Bale forced off the bench early when Madrid forward Jese Rodriguez injured his right knee two minutes in at the Santiago Bernabeu. Bale played a key role in the victory, feeding Ronaldo for the 21st-minute opener before Schalke defender Tim Hoogland equalized from a shot deflected beyond Iker Casillas. Ronaldo scored his 13th goal of the competition with an individual effort before Alvaro Morata struck Madrids third from Bales pass in the 75th. The victory extended Madrids unbeaten run to 31 games in all competitions ahead of Sundays Spanish league showdown with Barcelona. Also Tuesday, Chelsea beat Galatasaray 2-0 to reach the quarterfinals with a 3-1 aggregate victory, keeping alive the possibility of Madrid coming up against former coach Jose Mourinho. "I think all of the best teams have won their series, although there can be some surprises," Ancelotti said, with the quarterfinals draw coming on Friday. "Whoever we draw, its going to be difficult." Jese exited after Schalke defender Sead Kolasinac barged into the back of the Madrid winger, leaving him on the turf in visible pain. Ancellotti said Jese had ruptured his cruciate ligament, leaving him unlikely to return this season. Austin Gomber. . Bale swiftly added to the attack as Morata threaded a ball onto his run into the area and the Welshman picked out the inrushing Ronaldo to beat Schalke goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann. Madrids intensity soon slackened, and the visitors took advantage of the dip in the 31st as Julian Drexler started a break that eventually finished with Hooglands shot from outside the area deflecting off Sergio Ramos foot around goalie Iker Casillas. "The team reacted well, the performance was good," Schalke coach Jens Keller said through a translator. "But the minute Real Madrid has an opportunity, they can convert it into goal." Bale lost control at the halfway line in the 74th but Ronaldo skipped onto the loose ball and headed straight for Schalkes goal, twisting and turning defender Joel Matip before closing the run with a clinical finish from the edge of the area. Ronaldo didnt look done as he found the crossbar in the ensuing minute, with the rebound falling to Bale to unselfishly pass back for Morata to net after the Madrid striker had missed a number of early scoring chances. Ronaldo, who then found the post after that, moved within one goal of the record 14 scored by Lionel Messi of Barcelona and Jose Altafini of AC Milan in a single campaign of Europes top-tier competition. Ronaldo also equaled club great Ferenc Puskas mark of 242 goals with his brace. ' ' '
